World Cancer Day is February 2 and new statistics show that there is cause for concern now more than ever.
Until last year there were about 12.7 million cancer cases globally every year. The global cancer burden is estimated to have risen to 18.1 million new cases and 9.6 million deaths in 2018. One in 5 men and one in 6 women worldwide develop cancer during their lifetime, and one in 8 men and one in 11 women die from the disease. The number of people who are facing a cancer burden is expected to increase to 26 million by 2030
The US has the 7th highest overall cancer rate in the world, according to age standardized estimates compiled by the Washington DC–based American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR) and the World Health Organization.
