As citizens of “Sun City,” El Pasoans enjoy long summers and many cloudless days. But years of prolonged outdoor exposure from simple daily activities like walking the dog, gardening and even walking to and from the car causes sun damage to accumulate.
Premature aging and skin cancer are two risks El Pasoans are particularly susceptible to; in fact, nearly 90 percent of all melanomas are thought to be caused by exposure to UV light and sunlight. For this reason, our Bee Sun Smart campaign provides students with a brief, effective sun risk and sunscreen education. Our classroom materials include a simple lesson plan and a coloring book.
If you’d like to be a part of this initiative or to learn more about it, email Cindi Martinez at cmartinez@rgcf.org.
Thank you for helping us make ours a “Sun Smart” community!
