New initiative asks El Paso men to ‘be a Bro!’

The Rio Grande Cancer Foundation (RGCF) is kicking off their initiative for the month of November that is focused on an often-overlooked issue in the borderland: Men’s Health and Cancer Awareness. 'Brovember’ is an online contest that encourages men to sign up at www.rgcf.org/brovember to enter as a contestant and encourage their friends and family to vote or them. The ‘Bro’ with the most votes on November 30 wins a $500 Amazon Gift Card.

Executive Director of the RGCF, Carol Bohle, believes that Brovember is a great way to share information about cancer prevention and general men’s health awareness by encouraging people to go to the RGCF website where they can vote for their favorite contestant once a day and each day, they will learn a brief fact about men’s health. The contest is completely free to participants and voters.
“Brovember encourages men to start a conversation about their health. Many men tend to shy away from talking about cancer and other health concerns. With this fun and engaging social media campaign, it will spread awareness and more than a few smiles.”
This year the RGCF is using first-hand accounts from cancer survivors and men that are passionate about men’s health awareness. These ‘Bromoters’ share their personal experiences and offer encouragement to men to take control of their health at any age. The video interviews can be seen at www.rgcf.org/brovember.
The Brovember initiative helps us share our message about the extreme importance of establishing a relationship with a doctor, not just for screening, but for overall health. Prostate cancer affects more men in El Paso than any other cancer. Living a healthy lifestyle and detecting cancer early is the number one way to encourage survivorship,“ said Bohle. Contestants can register at www.rgcf.org/brovember and obtain further information.
